Nissan and Italdesign unveil the GT-R50 prototype.

The new Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is based on the 2018 Nissan GT-R NISMO, the occasion  is the 50th anniversary of both Nissan’s GT-R models and Italdesign. The car is expected to be launched in Europe by July 2018.

So what’s new in the car?

The car has been designed and built by Italdesign. The car is given a distinctive exterior and interior design at Nissan Design Europe in London and Nissan Design America. When you look at the car from the front, the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign features an evident golden element that spreads across the full width of the vehicle. The roof profile has gained a more muscular look thanks to the lowering of the roofline by 54 millimeters. When you look at the GT-R from the side the car has gained an even more opulent look with the cooling outlets behind the front wheel with gold inserts. On the rear, the window line extends a bit deeper and even more gold element inserts have been added.

Under the skin

Under the skin is a 3.8-liter V6 VR38DETT engine that produces 740bhp at 7100 rpm and 780 Nm of torque between 3600-5600 rpm. This new engine is a hand assembled masterpiece by NISMO. Driveline is Mid-mounted front with all-wheel drive system and the suspension features BILSTEIN DampTronic damping system. With such enormous power there is certainly a need of better brakes and so GT-R50 has a Brembo 2-piece floating drilled disc.

Commenting on this collaboration with Italdesign, Nissan’s senior vice president for global design said “How often do you get to ask, ‘What if we created a GT-R without limits,’ and then actually get to build it? This is a rare window in time when two big moments intersect: 50 years of Italdesign shaping the automotive world and 50 years of Nissan generating excitement through our iconic GT-R. So to celebrate this convergence, Nissan and Italdesign created this custom GT-R to mark 50 years of engineering leadership.”
