Volvo V90 Cross Country launched at Rs 60 lakh

Volvo has launched the V90 Cross Country in the Inscription trim, priced at Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom India). The V90 Cross Country is essentially a jacked up, off-road capable version of the standard V90 estate (which hasn’t been launched in India yet). It soldiers all alone in the estate segment, with the exception of Audi RS6 Avant, which is an all-out performance car. With no real competition, the V90 CC is expected to rival the SUVs such as the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 and chew into the luxury sedan segment as well.

Based on Volvo’s Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), the V90 Cross Country is powered by a 2-litre diesel engine (in the D5 state of tune) and churns out 235bhp and 480Nm, mated to an 8-speed gearbox. It also gets driving modes — Eco, Comfort, Off-Road and Dynamic. Equipped with a jacked up suspension, AWD and Haldex transfer case (same as the XC90), it is also off-road friendly. Just like the S90, it gets air suspension at the rear to help it avoid bottoming out when fully loaded.

In terms of equipment, it comes with all the trickery from Volvo’s flagship XC90 — Nappa leather seats, a Bowers and Wilkins 19 speaker system, heated and cooled seats, 4-zone climate control, a head-up display, massage seats, massive touchscreen that controls everything from driving modes to temperature and the headlights. You get LEDs, radar tech (distance alert, adaptive cruise control, lane change assist and parking assist) on this estate and interiors that are finished in excellent materials. The boot space is 590 litres and can be extended up to 1520 litres, with the seats folded down. The interiors are similar to the S90 with a centrally mounted massive touchscreen.

The V90 Cross Country has been launched as a CBU for now but Volvo will be assembling its entire portfolio soon, so expect the prices to go down eventually. The car is currently being sold exclusively on carewale.com. We drove the Volvo V90 Cross Country earlier this year, and here is what we thought about it.
