Volkswagen has introduced the Ameo diesel today , just in time as the festive season kicks in and demand for new cars will be at its highest. If you recollect, the petrol Ameo was launched a few months ago. While the basic variant of Ameo diesel is priced at Rs 6.33 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the 7-speed diesel DSG is priced starting at Rs 8.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). After the launch of this engine with increased power, Ameo diesel has become one of the most powerful sedans in the sub 4 metre category.

The Ameo diesel variants will be powered with the same 1.5litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that is seen in the Polo and Vento, but it now comes with uprated performance figures. Power has increased to 108.4bhp from 103bhp but maximum torque of 250Nm remains the same. The re-tuned diesel now makes its 250Nm across a wider torque band and max power is available at 4000rpm instead of 4400rpm, which should make the diesel Ameo a stronger performer than its siblings. The Polo and the Vento however should receive these updates too in due course.

The Ameo diesel will be offered with some first-in-segment features like 7-speed DSG gearbox, cruise control, rain sensing wipers, anti-pinch power windows, front center armrest and static cornering lights. Apart from dual airbags, and ABS which will come as standard across all the variants, the Ameo diesel will also come with some key features like the rear view camera and parking sensors, touchscreen multimedia music system with Mirror link, I-pod connectivity, phonebook / SMS viewer, climate control air conditioning and auto dimming IRVM the DSG variants will ESP and hill hold control as an added feature.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Michael Mayer – Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “We have witnessed a successful launch of the Ameo Petrol during the summer this year. Now with the Ameo diesel being introduced during the festivities, we have an opportunity to cater to a wider set of customers, thereby further expanding the Volkswagen family.”
