Vespas are known to exude sophistication and elegance in their design philosophy which is very much Italians at their best. Their current portfolio of scooters boasts of some unique tech like monocoque chassis, single sided front suspension and for two variants a 150cc motor. Piaggio India has now added two more products to the Vespa range – the 946 Emporio Armani and 70th Anniversary Edition.

946 Emporio Armani is a collaboration of two Italian giants, Vespa and designer label Emporio Armani as they pay tribute to the original Vespa that was first created in the year 1946. The new 946 sports the 125cc engine cradled inside a completely new steelplate monocoque chassis with a number of aluminium parts including the cylinder block.

220mm disc brakes on both ends are bolstered by ABS as well as ASR traction control; a first for any scooter in India. The Emporio Armani moniker graces the side panel as well as the seat lock cover. The seat in itself is quite funky with barely enough room for two unless you are two skinny supermodels riding it down the fashion ramp.

Style comes at a price and boy does this 946 Emporio Armani come at an exclusive (read staggering) price point of ₹12.04 lakh ex-showroom Pune and will only come to India on order basis.

The 70th Anniversary Edition scooter is the other scooter Vespa have decided add to the lineup making it the fourth 150cc scooter from Piaggio India after the two Vespa 150s and the recently launched and highly raved Aprilia SR 150. The bike gets the name VXL and bars the 70th Anniversary badging on the front glove box.

The VXL sports a brand new “Azzuro 70” colour with dark brown seat and light brown stitching. The addition of chromium to the design Ellesmere such as the rear carrier is unique and compelled the Italian styling.

The VXL though comes at a relatively cheaper (to the 946 that is) price point of ₹96,500 ex-showroom Pune and will be a limited run of 500 pieces.
