Tata Motors rolls out the first batch of Tigor EVs from its Sanand Plant

First batch of Tigor EVs made their way out of Tata’s Sanand plant located in Gujarat on Wednesday, December 6, 2017. Tata Motors qualified as L1 bidder among the competition to win the tender of 10,000 electric cars request raised by Energy Efficiency services Limited (EESL) in September 2017. The company has received the letter of agreement (LoA) from EESL of 250 cars that need to be delivered in phase 1. A LoA for additional 100 cars is expected to be issued shortly. EESL is a joint venture of four public sector enterprises which was set up under the ministry of power. Government aims to convert all the passenger vehicles to electric vehicles by 2030 and introduction of Tigor EV is the first step.

The electric powertrain employed in the Tigor EV is developed and supplied by Electra Motor Corporation, a firm that provides Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Electric Vehicle (EV) technology solutions. Tata showcased the Tiago EV concept at the 2017 Low Carbon Vehicle (LCV) event in UK early this year. The car is powered with 114bhp and 200Nm electric motor which sprints from 0-100kmph in 11 seconds. On a full charge, the Tiago EV is claimed to provide 100km range. We expect the Tigor EV to be equipped with the same powertrain.
