Jaguar Land Rover India launched the second generation XF today, with prices starting at Rs. 49.5 lakh. Powered by an all-new Ingenium diesel engine, the XF is the first JLR vehicle in India to have been equipped with the more efficient and powerful engine range.
The XF has been already popular in the Indian market for its design. JLR has not tinkered much with the overall silhouette of the car, for good reasons. On the front, the rehashed bumper and grille sport an even dashing design, making the luxury sedan look more desirable. On the rear end, the F-Typeish lights give it a neat look, along with the Aston Martinesque bootlid.
When it comes to the engines, an all-new Ingenium diesel is on offer. The 2-litre unit makes 177bhp of power and 430Nm of torque. The engine is lighter than the earlier Ford derived unit by 20kg and is more fuel efficient and ‘greener’ too. The Ingenium petrol variant was revealed recently although, it is expected to be brought to India by 2017. The earlier 2-litre petrol that also does duty on the Discovery Sport, has been carried over. It churns out 237bhp and 340Nm. Both the engines are mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Briton marque has also incorporated an all new aluminium based architecture, allowing the new XF to shed over 190kg of weight, which is expected to make the car much more efficient and fun to drive. Obviously, better packaging has also led to more space on the inside. The rear legroom is now up by 15mm, while the knee room has been stretched by 24mm. Talking about the features, the XF gets cruise control, 17 speaker 825W Meridian system, touch based infotainment system, hill and launch assist, sunroof, electrically adjustable seats and park assist.
The Jaguar XF is available in five variants and it goes up against the likes of BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
