Renault India launched its flagship SUV, the Captur today at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh, ex-showroom pan India. The Captur is priced higher than the Duster by Rs 1.5-1.75 lakh, depending on the variant and is available in three trims, RXE, RXL and RXT and a top of the line Platine trim with the diesel.
Based on the Duster, the Captur shares the platform and coherently, the power trains as well. Renault also sells the Clio based Kaptur SUV in the European market, but that shares nothing but the aesthetics with its Indian counterpart. You also get the same engine options as the Duster including 1.5-litre petrol and turbocharged diesel units. The 4-cylinder H4K petrol engine makes 105bhp and 142Nm of torque while the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder K9K dCI unit makes 108.5bhp and 240Nm. The petrol is mated to a 5-speed manual and the diesel comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Expect the automatic variant to launch in the future, but maybe with a dual clutch ‘box, unlike on the Duster as the Captur is positioned as a premium SUV.
The Captur comes loaded with features such as Audi-esque floating indicators, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, 17-inch wheels on RXT and Platine trims, dual tone interiors (white and gold on Platine only) and cornering lights. Dual airbags and ABS+EBD comes standard across the range while the Platine trim gets additional side air bags.
The Captur is available to book across Renault dealerships pan-India and also through Renault’s mobile app at a starting price of Rs 25,000. The Hyundai Creta is the Captur’s closest competitor and has been selling in 5 digit numbers. We expect the Captur to fetch at least twice the numbers of the Duster. The Creta is also more affordable of the two, with prices starting at Rs 9.3 lakh for the base petrol variant.
