Renault have officially unveiled the new Koleos SUV at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show. The company plans to sell the Koleos in 80 countries across the globe starting with China first, and it should eventually make its way to India as well.
The new SUV shares the same platform with the similarly sized X-Trail, as well as the bigger Renault-Nissan Alliance models like the Renault Talisman, which are sold abroad.
The Koleos is around 4,670mm in length and has a ground clearance of 213mm. With the increased length, the company claims ‘record-breaking interior space’, which includes 289mm of knee room for the middle row. Inside the cabin, it gets Renault’s R-Link 2 infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, remote starting and a rear-view camera. Apart from this, it will also get a wide range of driver assist functions which include lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, tiredness detection and easy park assist.
Under the hood, the Renault will sport two petrol and two diesel engines, with power outputs ranging from 130bhp to 175bhp. The engines will be available with either a six-speed manual transmission or the X-Tronic CVT box. The new Koleos will be offered with a 4×4 layout featuring 2WD, 4WD AUTO, and 4WD LOCK modes.
Like the previous generation Koleos, the new one will also be manufactured in collaboration with Samsung Motors, which means production at the alliance’s Busan plant in South Korea. If it makes it to India, the Koleos will be brought in as a CKD and assembled at the Renault-Nissan alliance plant in Oragadam, near Chennai.
