Venturing into new territories, Mercedes Benz has taken the wraps of its new pick-up – the X-Class. The X-Class intends to set a new trend for the pickup segment marrying style, panache and class with utility and sportiness.

However, the X-Class is not a pure Mercedes product. The chassis is borrowed from the Nissan Navara, and it will even be manufactured at the same Nissan factories in Spain and Argentina where the Navara is manufactured.

The X-Class will be available in two variants – the X 220 d and the X 250 d initially. Although both trims will share the same 2.3-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, the former will be getting a single-turbo while the latter will appear as a bi-turbo motor. Thus, the X 220 d will pump out 161bhp and 402Nm of torque while the X 250 d will have 188 horses under the hood, the peak torque rated at 450Nm. Both models will get a six-speed manual as standard, but you can opt for a seven-speed dual-clutch auto on the X 250 d. Also standard is Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive system on both the variants.

Known for their supreme ride quality, the X-Class is sprung by means of coil springs with double-wishbone setup at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear. The interior is typical Mercedes with jet-propeller styled AC vents, a tablet like 5.4 inch infotainment touch-screen at the centre and high quality materials with premium finish all round.

Sadly, the X-Class will be made available only to the European markets this year with South Africa and Australia getting the same in 2018; India not cropping up on its radar.
