Mercedes-Benz India has launched the S400 at Rs 1.31 crore, ex-showroom Hyderabad. The S-Class in this 400 trim employs a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine developing 333bhp and 480Nm. The S400 targets customers looking for the refinement of a petrol car but with lower running cost compared to a S500. Since the Mercedes-Maybach S500 is also on sale in the country, the regular S500 has been discontinued to keep a clear differentiation between variants.
Internationally, the S400 comes as a hybrid and in some markets, gets 4matic AWD too but India gets none of it, just a standard S400 sending power to the rear wheels. What you do get is a a S-Class with all the features other variants come with, including the Burmester sound system, massage seats, mood lighting and more.
Ban on radar guided systems means the famed magic body control still can’t be specified on the S-Class but you do get air suspension. This is the ninth S-Class variant to be launched in India.
