Mercedes-AMG revealed the GT R at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The AMG GT R takes the game to an all-new level from the GT S which was already a capable machine to begin with.

The GT R is powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 motor mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, pumping out 585bhp of power and 700Nm of torque. Though, this is the same powertrain as in the AMG GT S available in India but with a different state of tune now churns out 75bhp and 50Nm more. Also the transmission has been tuned to track requirements.

The AMG GT R is not just another AMG GT with an enhanced power and torque output; it’s a proper track tool with appropriate aerodynamic improvements and weight saving measures.

The track package includes forged aluminium rims, carbon fibre roof, carbon fibre rear wing, carbon fibre front and rear splitters, rear-wheel steer system, titanium exhaust and a GT3 racecar inspired double-wishbone suspension setup. Though, Carbon-Ceramic brakes are offered as an option.

Thanks to these track enhancements the Mercedes-AMG GT R holds the record of the fastest road-legal rear-wheel drive sportscar at the Nürburgring, also referred to as the ‘Green Hell’.

The Mercedes-AMG GT R is just a few weeks away from launch in India. Expect it to be priced considerably higher than the currently available GT S, which is priced at Rs 2.09 crore (ex-showroom, India).
