Mahindra will launch its Small Commercial Vehicle (SCV) the Imperio on January 6. Mahindra is positioning the Imperio as a premium pickup vehicle that will take on the Tata Xenon and Isuzu D-Max in the pickup segment. The Imperio has been designed and developed in-house by Mahindra’s engineers at the Mahindra Research valley in Chennai. The Imperio will be manufactured at the company’s manufacturing facility in Chakan.
The Imperio has been designed to carry out needs of every small and medium business offering style, performance and driving comfort. The Imperio is the facelifted version of the Xylo-based Genio pickup but repositioned with a new brand identity. The Imperio will be available as both single and double cabin variants. The Mahindra Imperio will be powered by the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder mDI CRDe diesel engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the same powertrain as the Genio. It will produce 75bhp of maximum power and 220Nm of peak torque. The Imperio is said to come with two driving modes: Power and Eco. A two-wheel drive variant will be standard and a four-wheel drive variant will be part of the lineup as well.
The Imperio is expected to be priced around from Rs 6-7 lakh ex-showroom Delhi.
