On the first anniversary of the Innova Crysta, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has brought in several sporty updates to the popular MPV. Christened as Innova Touring Sport, the Crysta now gets SUV-like design elements to appeal to a larger section of SUV-loving buyers across the country. Prices for the Innova Touring Sport start at Rs 17.79 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

On the outside, the Touring Sport gets a black grille, smoked headlamps and a chrome-plated splitter to add to the sportiness. The rear bumper also gets the black treatment along with the same chrome splitter while the tail gate also gets a black garnish. The rear wheel arches get black claddings too. The ‘black’ theme continues on the inside with a black dashboard incorporated with red wood inserts. The instrument cluster gets a red illumination and the seats too are stitched in red. And you pay Rs 75,000 over the Innova Crysta for all the updates.

There are no mechanical changes made to the Innova Touring Sport and it still comes with the choice of a 2.4-litre diesel, 2.8-litre diesel and 2.7-litre petrol engines. The 2.4-litre diesel is available only in one trim and comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the 2.8-litre gets the option of a 6-speed automatic gearbox only. The petrol is available with both, manual and automatic gearbox options.

Commenting at the launch, N Raja, Director and Senior VP (Sales and Marketing), TKM said, “Brand Innova has maintained its number 1 position since its debut in 2005. The Innova Touring Sport enhances the brand equity by offering a distinct style to a market that wants the comfort of an MPV and the style of an SUV. The Innova Crysta has sold more than 85,000 units since its launch and year back and maintains its leadership. Innova Crysta has now become a household name. We are certain that with the new offering, we will further enhance the brand’s appeal in India.”

The Innova Touring Sport is likely to take on Tata’s new Hexa, which has been doing well given its combination of a relatively more affordable price tag (compared to the Innova Crysta) and SUV-ish looks. With this new version of the MPV,  TKM would surely be expecting to eat into some of the Hexa’s sales.

Petrol Automatic: Rs 20.84 lakh

Diesel Manual: Rs 18.91 lakh

Diesel Automatic: Rs 22.15 lakh
