Honda has unveiled a facelift of the Brio today at a starting price of Rs 4.69 lakh. Although, no mechanical changes have been made to the hatch, cosmetic changes have been incorporated both on the outside and the inside.
On the outside, the Brio gets a rehashed bumper with larger air inlets. The grille has been carried over from the City, only with a blackened finish with chrome borders. On the rear, the tail lights have been revised slightly to make way for the new spoiler that also gets a built-in LED stop lamp.
Honda intends to promote the Brio as a ‘sporty’ hatch, so the interiors get an all black theme, as an option, along with the traditional beige theme. There are several silver and carbon finished elements on the dashboard now, along with an all analogue instrument cluster. The setup is functional as it was in the earlier car. The AC controls are now all digital, as compared to the manual knobs in the earlier car. There’s also an all new 2 DIN audio system that also gets Bluetooth connectivity.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Yoichiro Ueno, President & CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd said, “Launched in 2011, Honda Brio is a loved car for more than 87,000 happy Indian families and with the new Brio, we expect to strike a new chord with the young and vivacious Indians. It remains an embodiment of Honda’s engineering prowess and manufacturing excellence. Brio has the distinction of being the Industry Topper in Quality scoring No1 position in the J D Power IQS results year after year. The new Brio is an all-rounder – spacious, comfortable, looks good, has a fabulous effective engine, and delivers great fuel economy.”
The petrol unit has not been tinkered with and the 4-cylinder, 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine churns out 87bhp and 109NM. The Brio also offers an option of either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic ‘box. Safety features include, ABS+EBD and dual airbags as standard.
The Brio is available in four variants and goes up against the likes of Ford Figo, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10, Tata Tiago, Toyota Etios Liva, Chevrolet Beat, Nissan Micra and Renault Pulse.
