6 minutes and 52 seconds. That’s what it took the Lamborghini Huracan Performante to lap the 23km Nurburgring Nordschleife course, setting a new lap record for production cars. The Lambo beat the Porsche 918 Spyder by over five seconds, a no simple feat for any car to do so.

It made use of its naturally aspirated (yes, no turbocharging here) 5.2-litre V10 engine (the most powerful V10 Lamborghini has ever produced) mated to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, with a Haldex all-wheel-drive system and mechanical limited slip differential. The 600Nm of torque thus produced helped it reach triple digit speeds in in 2.9seconds going on to clock over 325kmph, thanks to the 631bhp the V10 churns out.

But the real hero in the act was Lamborghini’ Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA), which is basically an active aerodynamic setup allowing the adjustment of the front and rear wing to be done in under 500 milliseconds. Lamborghini claim that ALA has increased the downforce by a whopping 750-percent over the standard Huracan coupe. The ALA also allows aero vectoring which increases the downforce on the inner wheels while cornering, aiding corner grip and increasing corner speeds; a first for any high-performance car.

The all carbonfibre construction allows the Huracan Performante to weigh under 1400 kilos, which makes it lighter than a Volkswagen Jetta! Carbon ceramic brake rotors come as standard of course. Hence it is no rocket science that the Lamborghini was able to lap the ‘Ring as quickly as it did.

At a little over Rs. 1.82 crore in the UK, the Huracan Performante is certainly heavier on the pocket than the standard Huracan. But consider this, you save almost Rs. 75 lakhs for every second she is quicker than the Porsche 918 around the ‘Ring.
