The GT concept has been derived from Mercedes’ MRA platform of vehicles with an all aluminium platform construction for the chassis. While the design cues are certainly AMG-spec, the overall shape of the car is very similar to that of the Porsche Panamera.
AMG have managed to distribute the weight evenly with the 4.0-litre V8 engine upfront and an electrical unit at the rear, both combining to generate 805bhp and helping the car accelerate from standstill to a hundred in under three seconds. The hybrid system has been developed with their Formula One team that has enjoyed tremendous success in the current turbo-hybrid era. AMG isn’t unknown to electrification as they had already unveiled the SLS AMG Electric Drive, way back in 2010.
The AMG’s GT concept will go up against the likes of the Porsche Panamera hybrid, the BMW 6-series GranCoupe and the Audi A7.
