We’ve got some exciting news for adventure bikers. Honda Motorcycles India is going to launch the new 2016 Africa Twin at the Indian auto expo. The new Africa Twin moniker is now revived after a hiatus of twelve years. Officially called the CRF1000L, the adventure tourer comes with real world off-road capability and  touring comfort.

The CRF1000L employs a 998cc parallel twin engine with a unicam four-valve design and a 270 degree crankshaft. It develops 94bhp at 7500rpm and 98Nm of torque at 6000rpm. Two gearboxes are on offer – a six speed manual and a six speed DCT with on- and off-road riding modes. Both versions have ABS standard with rear ABS on/off and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). Honda claims that the 18.8-litre fuel tank gives the Africa Twin a range of 400km.

Long travel fully adjustable Showa fork and shock absorber, 310mm front discs with four piston calipers and 256mm rears, 21 inch front tyre, 18 inch rear tyre and 250mm of ground clearance, all make the Africa Twin a capable off-roader.

The CRF1000L Africa Twin is a successor to the XRV 750. The legendary adventure tourer is based on the four time Paris-Dakar rally winning NXR750.
