The Indian postal department has launched a new collectors’ series of postage stamps that celebrate the history of Indian transportation. The stamps have been launched in collaboration with the Heritage Transport Museum.

India’s first comprehensive transport museum, the Heritage Transport Museum is home to around 2,500 curated objects on display, that showcase our country’s transportation history. The museum has won a number of accolades, which include the National Tourism Award, for the most innovative and unique tourism project and the 2016 and Traveller’s Choice Award by TripAdvisor.

Recently the Transport Museum hosted the presentation ceremony of Commemorative Postage Stamps on “Means of transport through the ages,” and for the first time the Indian Department of Posts, issued 20 stamps depicting different modes of transport.

The series of stamps includes a set of 4 stamps each on Palanquins – an early form of transport; animal driven carts and carriages, rickshaws; vintage cars and a special 4 stamp series on public transport as well. The Heritage Transport Museum hopes this project will act as catalyst to reconnect people with India’s rich heritage.
