BMW has commenced its production of the third generation X3, which is due for its commercial launch on April 19, at its Chennai plant. The new X3 features LED headlamps, a redesigned and more robust front end and a new rear end. The new BMW X3 will compete with the recently launched Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Land Rover Discovery Sport when launched.  The big question however will focus on BMW’s pricing strategy for the X3 and for that we’ll have to wait till next month.

“We are excited to start local production of the much-awaited third generation BMW X3. The all-new BMW X3 offers advanced design language, innovative technologies and top-of-the-line equipment. BMW Group Plant Chennai is proud to locally-produce the latest and one of the most diverse product portfolios that has the highest standards of quality, distinguished workmanship and uncompromising engineering. We are confident that the all-new BMW X3 produced in Chennai will further increase our momentum in the Indian luxury car segment,” said Jochen Stallkamp, managing director, BMW Group Plant Chennai.

The group’s Chennai facility also produces the 3-Series, 3-Series GT, 5-Series, 6-Series GT, 7-Series, X1, X3 and X5 SUVs.
