After a resounding success worldwide, the updated Triumph Bonnie range reaches our Indian shores within months of the international launch. The all-new Street Twin and the updated Bonneville T120 were launched at the Expo with the new Thruxton R launch slated for a later date.
The new Street Twin is the new entry point of the Triumph motorcycle range in India as it is a modern take on the original British Bonneville look. The round head-lamp, the single circular console panel, the round mirrors have been well integrated to fit the bikes persona. The minimalistic body panels go along with the iconic Bonnie design.
The new 900cc high torque engine features on the Street Twin which produces 80Nm of torque, an 18% more than the previous generation of the engine. A five-speed gearbox is coupled to the new motor delivering a linear power delivery owing to the 270° firing interval.
The Bonnevile T120 however, harps back tunes of simpler times. The modern classic is designed to look just like its 1959 model when the Bonnie was born. There is a buck load of chromium treatment on the grab-rails, wheel rims, centre stand and the exhaust headers with a two piece logo completing the iconic design theme. The chrome exhaust headers and the peashooter style silencers minimise the heat discolouration along-with providing the melodious British twin exhaust note.
A new 1200cc high torque engine develops 105Nm of torque from its twin cylinder layout. An immaculate attention to details on Triumph’s part to get the look right as the engine gets brushed aluminium engine covers with elegant bronze detailing.
The Bonneville is known worldwide for its ease of customization and Triumph aim to start the craze in India too by offering ‘inspiration kits’ for the owners to suits their customizing needs. Else entrust Triumph as the dealer has been provided with complete sets to convert the Bonneville into different styles – from Scramblers and Brat Trackers to Track Racers and Cafe Racers.
The Thruxton R is the quintessential modern day cafe racer and now with a new 1200cc high power engine, it is a beauty with a throbbing beast lying underneath. The streamlined design of the Thruxton is equipped with performance parts like Showa USD front forks, clip-on handlebars, Brembo brake kit, Ohlins rear suspension and Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tyres. The rear seat cowl is still present on the new generation of the Thruxton but the front head-lamp cowl is amiss on the latest spec (customizable as a race flyscreen is available).
All the above three bikes get ABS and ride-by-wire technologies. The ride-by-wire technology provides a further set of technical aids such as traction control, slip assist clutch system and, on the 1200cc machines, three riding modes – road, rain and sport – for a pleasurable experience. All three bikes also get an under-seat USB charging socket to charge your gadgets on the go.
The Street Twin will cost you Rs. 6.90 lakh ex-showroom Delhi and will be rolled out of the showrooms come the month of March. The Bonneville T120 is priced at Rs. 8.70 lakh with deliveries starting in the month of April. However the Thurxton R pricing is yet to be announced but deliveries to begin in July. Time for some British biking I guess.
