Volkswagen have confirmed that the Polo GTI will be launched in India very soon and will be coming with a manual gearbox option. The car will be unveiled to the Indian public for the first time at Auto Expo on the 4th of February.
The GTI being brought to India will feature the 1.8-litre TSI that features on the Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia as well. The engine churns out a massive (for a small car, of course) 189bhp and 320 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from a standstill to 100kmph in just 6.7 seconds. And we’ve known all this for a while. The biggest news, however, is the fact that VW will be offering the Polo GTI with not only the expected DSG gearbox like the one seen on the GT TSI, but with a manual gearbox as well. And if that wasn’t enough to get your enthusiast pulse racing, the Polo GTI will be a three-door car, unlike the traditional five-door Polos sold in the country. We’ve spotted the Polo GTI testing on multiple occasions but Volkswagen has always chosen to remain mum about it, until now.
Prices haven’t been announced yet, but being a CBU, expect it to be priced around Rs. 20 lakh. This makes it way more expensive than say, the Abarth Punto, but it definitely packs a bigger punch.
