The Reva division of Mahindra has made its presence felt at the Expo, as they take the covers off their juiced up e2o, coined as the e2o Sport. The new car is leaps and bounds ahead of its sibling with major focus on improving the range as well as performance on the new vehicle.
Powered by an 80KW electric motor, the e2o Sport makes serious power to the tune of 140bhp. The 180Nm of instantaneous torque to the rear wheels, helps the car achieve a 0-100 kmph timing of 8 seconds, that beats the likes of some internal combustion engine propelled hatchbacks like the Fiat Punto Abarth by 0.8 seconds. The 120kmph top speed is also some feat for a pure electric car made in India.
The car is fitted with low-profile tyres of 205/40 ZR17 spec and disc brakes on all four wheels. The car is furnished with racing bucket seats and a four-point safety harness straps the driver as well as the co-driver in his place. The car however weighs 1190kilos due to the massive lithium ion battery pack which enables the car to go on for 200km.
The other electric vehicle on display was the electric avatar of their sedan the Verito which has been christened the eVerito. The eVerito is also an electric motor powered vehicle like the e2o. A 72V 3-phase AC induction motor propels the vehicle producing 41 horses and 91Nm of torque. The fully automatic eVerito has low rolling resistance 185/70 R14 spec tyres and a front disc – rear drum brake configuration. Despite the vehicle weighing over 1700km, the car can reach a claimed top-speed of 86kmph.
