Audi India’s flagship SUV, which was only available with a 3-litre diesel option will now also be offered with the choice of a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Christened Q7 40 TFSI, the petrol variant will be available in one trim: Premium Plus, with the option of ‘Technology Pack’, for added goodies.

The in-line 4-cylinder, turbocharged, 1984cc petrol engine in the Q7 makes 248bhp and a massive 370Nm of torque. It comes with Quattro, Audi’s permanent all-wheel drive system combined with a 8-speed transmission, allowing the massive 2240kg SUV to hit 100kmph in just 6.9 seconds. Top speed is rated at 233kmph.

In terms of the features, the 40 TFSI gets 19-Inch wheels, panoramic sunroof and Audi Matrix headlamps (Technology pack). The interiors also come with all the regular luxury SUV add-ons, such as manual sun blinds, park assist, DVD player, tire pressure monitoring system, Bose music system, Audi virtual cockpit, Audi smartphone interface and ambient lighting. There’s also wireless charging system and 8 airbags, even in the basic trim.

Audi is planning to focus on the Q range and we expect the Q2 to make it to our shores sooner or later. The company also intends to focus on petrol and hybrid models, and split the diesel and petrol sales at 50 per cent each by 2020. Currently, the diesels contribute to 90 per cent of the total sales, said Mr. Rahil Ansari, Head, Audi India.
