Ashoka Buildcon Safety Month

Ashoka Buildcon one of the country’s largest highway developers recently concluded its Road Safety Awarness Program for 2016. The campaign which was carried out on 20 road projects spanning West Bengal, Orissa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, and Maharashtra and focused on a method of making India’s roads safer.

As part of the campaign, Ashoka put into play several initiatives like:

  • Safety Awareness Program in more than​500​ schools at over 20 locations across India reaching out to 2.5 lakh students
  • ​​Free Eye Check up camps for truck drivers at Ashoka’s Projects
  • Coordination with local police for spreading road awareness amongst road users
  • Donation of Alcohol Breath Analysers and Speed Guns
  • Use of Mobile Road Safety Message vans and Public address systems to communicate road safety messages
  • Deployment of Robotic Flagmen and State of Art Traffic Diversion devices at ‘Work in Progress’ Locations

The Campaign also included​ multiple activities​ pasting of reflective stickers on trucks, bullock carts, cycles tractors etc. Use of Mobile Road Safety Message Van, Public Address System, distribution of safety message pamphlets was helpful to spread road safety messages across millions of road users. Volunteers also requested commuters who pass by Ashoka’s toll plazas to observe basic safetyrules while driving.

To reinforce the message of safety, team Ashoka lined up activities which include Safety Message Signages at Toll Plazas, Hoardings and also the Toll Tickets with messages. Also, volunteers from the staff members extended​a gentle request to commuters to drive safely. ‘Please wear your seatbelt’, ‘don’t drink and drive’, ‘Please respect speed limits’, ‘Please don’t talk on your cell phone while driving’, ​were some of the messages used during the campaign ​to reach out to thousands of commuters driving across the highways of Ashoka.​
