Now you can fly in your car! PAL-V, a Dutch manufacturer has created commercial flying cars, Liberty Sport and the Liberty Pioneer. The flying cars are priced at Rs 2.7 crore and Rs 4.01 crore, respectively. Initial deliveries are expected to begin in the European market by the end of 2018.
These three-wheelers are capable of carrying two passengers and can fly at speeds up to 180kmph. While on ground, the Liberty can do a top speed of 160 kmph and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in 9 seconds. The fuel efficiency for a ‘vehicle’ of its class is respectable at 11.1kmpl, giving it a range of 1315 km on a full tank.
The manufacturer also claims that ‘the dimensions of the PAL-V Liberty series do not exceed those of a regular roadgoing car’. Both versions of the Liberty are constructed using two retractable rotor blades and a pair of engines, one used for driving and the other for flying. While the Sport is the standard variant of the Liberty, the Pioneer edition comes with a customisable kit.
Introductory training sessions will be taken at customers’ residence by a PAL-V Lead Flight Instructor to familiarize with the flying cars during the delivery and the Pioneer version is expected on sale first, followed by the standard edition in the later part of the year.
