Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India has finally launched their much awaited hot-hatch, the Abarth Punto. Priced at a competitive Rs. 9.95 lakhs, this Punto has Abarth’s 1.4-litre T-Jet engine stuffed under its hood to give it a bump in performance. They also launched the Fiat Avventura powered by Abarth at Rs. 9.95 lakhs.
The Abarth Punto’s 1.4-litre engine makes a staggering (for a car this size) 145bhp that can propel it form naught to 100kmph in just 8.8 seconds. The turbo-petrol engine also makes 212Nm of torque between 2000 and 4000 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual ‘box and this pocket rocket can hit a top speed of 190kmph. Sold in only one variant, the Punto comes with ABS and EBD as standard.
The Abarth Punto has been lowered and ground clearance is now 155mm. It is available in both black and white with loud red decals on the bonnet and along the sides and comes with stylish 16-inch alloys.
Unlike the Punto, the Avventura is called the ‘Fiat Punto powered by Abarth’, instead of the Abarth Avventura. The Avventura has a 1.4-litre T-Jet engine as well, and makes 140bhp. It can accelerate from zero to 100kmph in 9.9 seconds.
The Punto Abarth and Avventura powered by Abarth will be available in over a hundred Fiat outlets across the country. Abarth first made it’s presence felt in the country with the Abarth 595 Competizione, and has finally expanded its portfolio by introducing much more accessible cars.
