The Ford GT is the fastest car Ford has ever built. Ford finally released numbers for the new GT and headlining it is the 347.6kmph top speed. The GT is powered by just a 3.5-litre V6 Ecoboost engine, and makes 647 horsepower and 746Nm of torque. Ford says the GT is capable of hitting such a high top speed due to its active aerodynamics and light weight.

Ford further goes on to state that the GT has set a faster time on track than the McLaren 675LT and Ferrari 458 Speciale. Which track? The Calabogie Motorsports Park in Canada. If you notice something amiss about this, Calabogie is close to the Ford factory in Toronto where the GT is assembled, and hence seems to be the track Ford must have used for the development and setup of the GT. In the release, Ford says, “In 2016 development testing, with all contenders track-prepped with new fluids, fresh tyres and optimal suspension settings, in identical conditions and with the same driver behind the wheel, Ford GT outperformed both the McLaren 675LT and Ferrari 458 Speciale.”

The laptimes reveal the GT was a full 3.1 seconds faster than the 458. It did a lap of the Calabogie in 2:09.8, the McLaren did it in 2:10.88 and the 458 Speciale clocked 2:12.9. We’d be curious to see if McLaren and Ferrari respond to these claims.
