Mercedes-Benz unveils new GLS, it’s “S-Class of the SUVs”

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new GLS, which the brand is calling the ‘S-Class of SUVs’. The new offering is Mercedes-Benz’s largest and most luxurious SUV yet. Another highlight in the world premiere of the GLS 580 4MATIC. It is essentially an electrified V8 engine featuring EQ Boost – a 48-volt system with integrated starter-generator.

Speaking about the new GLS, Ola Källenius, the member of the board of management of Daimler AG responsible for corporate research and Mercedes-Benz cars development said,”The new SUV embodies luxury, confidence and intelligence like almost no other vehicle.”

How does the “bigger is better” theme help the GLS?

The brand says that the confident presence of the GLS’ exterior stems from its dimensions, which are even larger than those of its predecessor. The new SUV is longer by 77 mm and wider by 22 mm. One of the benefits of the 60 mm longer wheelbase is interior space, especially in the second row.

Easy-Entry function is now standard for the electrically-adjustable seats. This feature makes it easy to get into and out of the third seat row, as it folds down all rear seats at the push of a button. This increases the boot space (up to 2400 litres).

It also gets two fully fledged seats in the third row (for people up to 1.94 m tall). It also gives the choice of either three-seater rear bench or two luxury individual seats with armrests in the second row. There is an option for five-zone automatic climate control as well as heated seats and separate USB charging ports for the third row, too.

But does the it have the go to match the show?

The new SUV gets the E-Active Body Control active suspension from the GLE. Another function carried over is latest generation of Mercedes-Benz driving assistance systems giving cooperative support to the driver. The new GLS has impressive aerodynamics for its segment, with a Cd figure of 0.32.

Mercedes-Benz GLS: Fun for the whole family

The new GLS gets the MBUX Rear Seat Entertainment System. This system is available on other Mercedes-Benz models as well. However, the GLS gets two 11.6-inch touchscreens for movie, music and internet enjoyment. It also has a separate tablet for controlling all of the MBUX comfort and entertainment functions from the rear seats
