McLaren unveils its latest hardcore track demon – the 600LT

The McLaren 600LT is a road legal track demon

After shocking the entire automotive fraternity with the Senna, McLaren is now back with another beast. Enter the McLaren 600LT. This track focused road legal car is inspired by the 675LT, which was launched back in 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show and the F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ race car. Though not as shocking and awe inspiring as the Senna, the McLaren 600LT provides enough visual drama to make your eyes pop out! The overall design of the car is a combination of 675LT and 570S Coupe. The 600LT will be limited to just 500 examples worldwide.

Powerful and lightweight

The 600LT also features the ‘top exit’ exhaust setup seen in the Senna along with carbon fibre bodywork surrounding it. Other exterior features include a new carbon fibre body work, fixed rear wing and a massive rear diffuser. The 600LT’s exterior enhancement contributes to more downforce and the car is longer by 74mm. The car is also lighter by 96kg compared to the 570S coupe. The chassis too is made of carbon fibre to keep the weight in check. On the inside, you get carbon fibre racing seats as seen in the McLaren P1. If you still need a light weight seat, the company will offer you the super lightweight carbon fibre seats they developed for the McLaren Senna. The McLaren Special Operations (MSO) also gives you an option of carbon fibre roof and front fender louvres. McLaren says that 23 per cent of the parts of the 600LT are shared with the 570S Coupe. The 600LT makes 30 horses and 20Nm more than the 570S.

On the technical side of things, propelling the 600LT is a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that unleashes 592 horses and 620Nm of peak twist. The car tips the scales at 1247kg (dry) and as a result the power to weight ratio is 474bhp/tonne. The McLaren 600 LT gets shod with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres that are specifically for track days.Production of the car will begin in October this year and will be hand assembled at its Woking facility in England. Customers opting for the 600LT will also get take their cars out for a spin at their nearest race track under the supervision of expert drivers from McLaren.

What the CEO of McLaren had to say

Mike Flewitt, chief executive officer, McLaren Automotive, said, “The McLaren 600LT is only the fourth ‘Longtail’ McLaren in more than two decades. The McLaren F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ that began the lineage was one of the purest race cars in modern motorsport history. The 675LT resurrected the revered name, creating the purest distillation of the sheer driving pleasure embodied by all McLaren cars. Now we are further extending our very special LT family –albeit in limited numbers – and once again showcasing the ethos of optimised aerodynamics, increased power, reduced weight, track-focused dynamics and enhanced driver engagement that are the hallmarks of a McLaren ‘Longtail’.”
