Mahle

The facility, located in Pune, is the only global sales shared service centre for the German company; Mahle currently employs more than 450 engineers and technicians

Mahle, a German auto motive component supplier and development partner for many OEMs in the automotive industry, opened its global engineering and shared service centre in Pune.  The facility is built over an area of 55000 square feet. The company employs more than 78,000 people globally and has over 450 engineers working at the newly opened facility in Pune. With BS-VI fast approaching and talks of electrification everywhere, Mahle says that they are prepared for BS-VI standards with their automotive components. The company will also invest on alternate drivetrains including battery and FCEV. Its client list includes Tata Motors, Volkswagen, Cummins to name a few and most of its customers were present at the event to show their support.

The company says that there will be an increase in capacity for electric drive units along with software for the same and that two and three wheeler electric drive systems will see an increase in production, since that is the category which will be electrified soon. Mahle is also working on the thermal engineering aspect to make the EGR more efficient. The company is also active in the world of motorsports, as a lot of its components are used in rallies and races. It is also present in segments  like mobile machinery, rail transport and marine applications.

Arnd Franz, member of the management board, corporate executive VP  OE- automotive sales and application engineering

“India is at the epicentre of Mahle’s dual strategy; as part of the global green initiative there is a-risingtrend towards development of hybridisation and electrification although IC engines are here to stay, especially in a market like India.  Given this market scenario, Mahle has developed a dual strategy by which it will continue to remain and provide optimal solutions for IC engines while simultaneously developing solutions for electric mobility. Mahle has defined its mission to offer innovative mobility solutions that stand for clean air, fuel efficiency, and driving pleasure.”

Raj Kalra, President, Mahle Holding (India) Private Limited

“As an engineering centre this is a unique one. Worldwide even though we have R&D Centres for specific business units this one will service the entire world from here itself. Thus proving the “One Mahle” Global approach. Mahle already has a strong presence in India (represented by all 4 BU’s / division through 14 plants generating Euro 278 million with HC of 4400 employees), but we need to take it to next level, therefore at the core of the organization sits the shared services; supporting multiple locations, globally. Mahle in India has greater ambitions… not just of a manufacturer but of a shared services provider as well”.
