Jeep Wrangler petrol launched at Rs 56 lakh

Jeep has launched a petrol variant of the Wrangler Unlimited in India at a price tag of Rs 56 lakh.  The company brought the Wrangler to India last year along with the Cherokee and the SRT, and was priced at Rs 75 lakh, a little too high for the Indian market. At the time of the launch, there were rumours about a petrol variant coming to India, since, there is a petrol Wrangler on sale in markets abroad. Finally it is here and is priced Rs 19 lakh cheaper than its diesel sibling.

The petrol Wrangler is available in the five-door Unlimited model, but instead of the 197.2bhp, 2.8-litre diesel engine, there is a more powerful 3.6-litre, Pentastar V6 petrol engine, making 280bhp (83bhp more than the diesel variant) at 6,350rpm and 347Nm  of torque at 4,300rpm (113Nm short of the 460Nm available on the diesel Wrangler). Like the diesel Wrangler, the petrol variant also gets a five-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system as standard. Apart from the addition of the petrol engine, there is no other change in terms of features or design.

With this new pricing, the Wrangler will go up against the Mercedes-Benz GLC, Land Rover Discovery Sport and BMW X3, though there is still no direct competition to the American off-roader as the others are soft-roaders.
