The tenth generation of the iconic Honda Civic is here. It comes with two engine options, a 1.6-litre turbo diesel and a more refined version of the enthusiast favourite 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol.
Honda has driven in the tenth generation of Civic in India at Rs 17.69 lakh for the base variant, going all the way up to Rs 22.29 lakh for the top-spec trim. The company claims to have received 1000 bookings in just 10 days.

Coupé like roofline on the new Honda Civic
The new Civic sports a refreshing design and retains the sporty appeal of its predecessors, though in a much modern fashion. Upfront the car boasts LED headlamps and foglamps along with LED DRLs. There’s also an imposing chrome slab on the grille, resembling the one from the Amaze. It almost immediately catches the eye. The new Civic also gets 17inch alloys. But the most striking part of the car is the fastback coupe-like roofline that stands it out from conventionally styled rivals. The taillamps bracket the boot like boomerangs and it all cuts a very attractive shape. It’s also long and low in keeping with Civic tradition.
Powering the new Honda Civic
The Civic is offered with two engine options – a 1.6-litre turbo diesel i-DTEC motor which is the first time that the premium sedan gets the diesel engine in India. It makes 118bhp at 4000 rpm and 300Nm of torque at 2000rpm. Surprisingly it’s only offered with a 6-speed manual transmission and there’s no automatic on option. On the other hand, the 1.8-litre petrol i-VTEC is offered only with a CVT automatic. The naturally aspirated engine, which is likely to be in its last edition until the turbocharged engines takeover in the Honda stable, makes 138bhp at 6500rpm and 174Nm of torque at 4300rpm. The diesel variant has a best in class claimed fuel economy of 26.8kmpl while the i-VTEC has a claimed fuel efficiency of 16.5kmpl.
Inside the 10th generation Honda Civic
On the inside, the Civic gets a 17.7cm touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The speedo is still digital, and now a 7-inch TFT screen displays the trip computer, your phone log and more. The handbrake is now electric which brings hill hold and hill start assist to the party. It adds to the list of safety equipment that includes Vehicle Stability Assist, 6 airbags and a 5 star Asian NCAP crash test rating. The lane watch camera on the passenger side ORVM is a first in segment feature for blind spot detection. cool feature as well.
It has been 46 years since the inception of the Honda Civic. And throughout its history, it has been an enthusiast-friendly car known for its great ride and handling and peppy engines. The Civic is Honda’s longest running automotive nameplate and it’s largest selling model globally.
In India, the latest generation car competes with the likes of the Toyota Corolla Altis which starts at Rs 16.45 lakh, Hyundai Elantra starting at Rs 13.81 lakh and the Skoda Octavia which costs 15.99 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).
