Jaguar Land Rover India has added a petrol variant to the Discovery Sport lineup, citing demand for petrol cars due to the diesel ban in Delhi slowing down its sales. The Discovery Sport has been launched for Rs 56.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The 2-litre engine churns out 237bhp of power and is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. It is the same engine that does duty on the Jaguar XE.

The 7-seater SUV will be available only in the HSE trim. The diesel Discovery Sport gets a 2.2-litre engine with two power outputs, 147bhp and 187bhp. In terms of the features, the Discovery Sport petrol gets a terrain response system, panoramic sunroof, grained leather seats, rear view camera, dynamic stability control and park assist as standard.

Jaguar Land Rover President, Rohit Suri said “We already had the Jaguar XJ in petrol, then we launched Jaguar XE in petrol too which saw strong response from the market in the first quarter. Now, we have Discovery Sport petrol too. In the first quarter, we sold over 1,000 units registering a growth of 45% over the same period last year. This year, we are looking at double digit growth.”

The CBU-only SUV is sold across 23 Land Rover dealerships across the country.
