The countdown for Volkswagen I.D. begins

“A company like Volkswagen must lead, and not follow”, says VW group Chief Executive Matthias Mueller. VW is all set to take the next big step in the world of mass-produced electric vehicles as the countdown for their first mass-produced electric vehicle would start production 100 weeks from now.
The I.D. would be based on the all-new MEB (Modularer Elektrobaukasten) platform, which is German for “Modular Electrical Construction Kit”.
From 2020, Volkswagen would introduce the I.D., I.D. BUZZ, and I.D. CROZZ. The I.D. is the base model for the range and will be the base platform for all other electric cars from the Volkswagen brand. VW expects the I.D. to drive the bulk of its EV sales and is launching the production version of the car within a month of the Mk8 Golf in 2020. Meanwhile, the I.D. Buzz is an ode to the classic mini bus, but in a futuristic yet simple design package. The design, although unmistakably Volkswagen, is something that would stand out even in a garage full of supercars.

The CROZZ dons strong muscular creases and VW claims that the concept has ideal weight distribution because of the way the drivetrain is positioned and has handling characteristics that are similar to a Golf GTI. The first vehicle would be rolling off the Zwickau plant in Saxony.
Mueller announced ambitious targets – 80 new electric cars across Group brands by 2025, electric versions of all 300 models by 2030 and an investment of 20 billion euros in the electrification drive.
