BMW launches locally produced X4 at Rs 60.60 lakh

Expanding its SUV line-up further, BMW has launched the all new X4 in the country at a starting price of Rs 60.60 lakh for the xDrive20d variant. The SUV is locally produced at its Chennai facility. The xDrive30d retails at Rs 65.9 lakh and the xDrive30i costs Rs 63.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Slotting between the X3 and X4, the company has addressed the wide price gap between the X3 and X5. The X4 has its sights firmly on the Mercedes-Benz GLE, which starts at Rs 66.48 lakh.

There are three engine options available for the X4 – the most powerful is the 3-litre 6-cylinder engine that develops 261bhp and 620Nm, which pulls the SUV to 100kmph in 6 seconds; a 2-litre 4-cylinder diesel which develops 187.4bhp and 400Nm and a 2-litre 4-cylinder petrol mill that produces 248.5bhp and 350Nm. The petrol variant hits the 100kmph in 6.3 seconds, while the 2-litre diesel variant does the same in a claimed 8 seconds. All the variants get 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD. Driver aids include electronically controlled ‘Automatic Differential Brakes/Locks (ADB-X)’, traction control, hill start assist and hill descent control.

Safety features include six airbags, dynamic stability control, cornering brake control, side impact protection and ISOFIX child seat mounting. On the inside, you get iDrive Touch with handwriting recognition, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, a 16 speaker Harman Kardon sound system and HUD.

All three variants of the X4 are available in M Sport X package only, which BMW has introduced for the first time in India. The air intakes, side skirts, wheel arch trim and rear apron with diffuser insert are in Frozen Grey as a part of the M Sport X package. It gets blue M Sport brake callipers bearing the M logo. The X4 gets LED headlamps with anti-dazzle feature, LED fog lights, a coupe like sloping roofline with a low slung spoiler at the rear. The twin exhaust pipes further enhance the sport character of the SUV. So much that BMW calls it a Sports Activity Coupe.

On the launch of the X4, Hans-Christian Baertels, president (act.), BMW Group India said, “BMW established the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) category and the latest addition to this hugely successful family is the all-new BMW X4 belonging to the Sports Activity Coupé segment. Its distinctive vehicle concept, which fuses the hallmark features of a BMW X model with the sporting elegance of a coupé, will be proven an instant hit in this class and will become a trend-setter. The all-new BMW X4 underscores its individual character with superior driving dynamics, standout exterior design accentuating the car’s sporting instincts, a refined premium ambience in the interior and leading-edge technologies.”
