Aston Martin Valkyrie engine highlights revealed

Ever since Aston Martin first revealed their hypercar back in July 2016, the brand has been teasing us every now and then with some details of the Valkyrie to make sure that we don’t forget what Aston Martin plans to unleash. This time around, it’s what everyone wants to know about- the heart of the Valkyrie.

The heart of the Valkyrie

Aston Martin has always aimed at providing unadulterated engine performance and for Valkyrie they have left no stone unturned. The British marquee has teamed up with Cosworth (high performance engine specialists)  to develop an insane naturally-aspirated 6.5 litre V12 producing 1000 horses and a tarmac shattering 740Nm that can redline up to 11,100rpm! Yeah, that’s right. Probably out to set the record for the biggest naturally aspirated engine in production that also complies with the emission norms, Cosworth and Aston Martin are building an engineering marvel.

This sure isn’t easy. To achieve this, majority of the engine components are machined, leaving components like block, cylinder heads, sump and structural cam covers to be cast. This has given them supremacy of getting the maximum strength with lightest of the components. All this wizardry has resulted in the engine weighing just 206kgs! If this doesn’t startle you, the fact that the Valkyrie’s crankshaft is 50 percent lighter than the one used in the Aston Martin V12- the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated road legal car, at one point, from the brand’s stable should do the trick

To top that off, this engine will be assist by a Rimac-sourced hybrid battery system, the details of which are not released yet.

Designing the track-inspired Hyper car

Since Aston Martin is aiming for the stars with this car, they haven’t stopped at building a super-light, scarily fast engine. RedBull racing’s Adrian Newey is ensuring that the car makes most of its 1000+bhp mill. For starters, the brand felt their regular “winged” badge is too heavy for the car so they developed a chemical-etched aluminium badge that is thinner than a human hair at 70 microns thick!

One look at the car and you know the Aston Martin-Redbull alliance means serious business. The car is built around a carbon tub with the engine as its stress member, which means the engine is the only component connecting the cockpit to the front wheel! Everything on the car speaks function- right from the exposed LED illumination to smartly housed cameras that replace the mirrors. Even the controls are housed on the steering wheels to keep the driven focused on the road along with just one OLED screen packing the car info.

Your F1-like experience won’t end here. The seats are mounted to the carbon tub directly. This means, the occupants will have seating position similar to a F1 or a Le Mans car!

Get a grip on

This ultra-fast, super-light car is surely going to need some good rubber to slay the tarmac. Here though, the car won’t be getting some fancy, super exclusive tyres. Michelin was announced as the tyre partner and the Valkyrie will be sporting Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. That’s right, the tyres that keep many supercars glued to the roads will be put through their toughest test.

In case you plan to save some moolah for this car, read what Aston Martin’s chief creative officer, Marek Reichman has to say “The Aston Martin Valkyrie is an incredibly special car that demands an equally remarkable name; an uncompromising car that leaves nothing in reserve. The connotations of power and honour, of being chosen by the Gods are so evocative, and so pertinent to a car that only a fortunate few will ever experience.”

A limited run of 150 examples of this car will hit the streets followed by a track-only 25 units christened Valkyrie AMR Pro.
