Yamaha India had unveiled the Cygnus Ray-ZR scooter during the Auto Expo in February this year. The Cygnus Ray-ZR was developed around the concept of a new generation scooter aimed towards male teenagers. Inspiration came in the form of a new exterior design characterised by a a layered front end similar to the floating panels seen on some superbikes and streetfighters. Its a new design element for scooters sold in India and gives the scooter a full-bodied visage. There are a lot of angular lines dominating the overall design and with the graphic design and paint shade similar to Yamaha’s FZ, gives the scooter a refreshing look. The instrument cluster is new and is an analogue unit.
The Cygnus Ray-ZR comes with an air-cooled 113cc ‘Blue Core”’engine with CVT transmission. Power is rated at 7.1bhp at 7500rpm and torque output is 8.1Nm at 5000rpm. It is light, weighing in at 103kg so performance should be sprightly. Blue Core technology endows the engine with high combustion efficiency to give a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 66kmpl.
Yamaha is offering the bike with tubeless tyres mounted on 10-inch alloys. Disc brakes are a Rs 2,000 option.
The Ray-ZR comes with 21 litres of boot storage. The new model will come in two eye-catching colours for its disk brake model to fulfil the needs of trend-conscious young riders. It will also be available in two different colours for its drum brake variant and two colour options for the drum-brake equipped one. The Yamaha Cygnus Ray-ZR retails at Rs 52,000 (ex-Delhi) for the drum brake variant and Rs 54,000 for the disc brake variant.
