Yamaha India launched its 249cc iteration of the FZ today, which is priced at Rs. 1.19 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Yamaha’s first quarter-litre naked bike in India, the FZ25 comes equipped with an air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, single cylinder 249cc engine that makes 20.6bhp and 20Nm of torque. The engine is already BS IV compliant to meet the GoI norms, soon to be implemented. The FZ25 gets a 5-speed gearbox and also gets fuel injection.

The FZ25 does not get USD forks at the front and the same mono shock suspension from the FZ16 does duty on the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 282mm disc up front and a 220mm disc at the rear, but unfortunately Yamaha is not offering ABS even as an option. The kerb weight of the bike is 148kg. The FZ25 also gets a 14-litre tank and with Yamaha’s claimed fuel efficiency figure of 43kmpl, the range is decent too at over 550km.

The instrument cluster is similar to that on the FZ16 but shows additional information such as real-time fuel economy, average fuel economy and a clock. Available in three colour schemes, Ballistic Blue, Warrior White and Knight Black, the quarter-litre naked is currently offered in only one variant.

Although late to the party, Yamaha has finally brought in a naked with a higher displacement to our shores. Like all other Yamahas, we expect the FZ25 to come with a refined engine and silky-smooth transmission. The FZ25 has a lot of work to do as it will be going up against the behemoths such as the KTM 200 Duke, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, Hero Karizma R, DSK Benelli TNT25 and the soon to be launchd Bajaj Pulsar NS 200.
