The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has proposed a vision to make electric mobility a reality by the year 2047, which will also mark 100 years for Independent India. SIAM has presented a white paper on electric vehicles to the government with their vision of making mobility purely electric in near future. The first step will be to make the public transport fully electric along with 40 per cent of the personal vehicles to go electric. This move is a part of achieving the goal of India Energy Security Scenario 2047.

The phasing of IC engines will be a gradual process and will be relevant for the next decade according to SIAM. They have also recommended quality fuels along with engine up gradation for alternative fuels as well as hybrid technologies by the year 2030 that will create a way towards fully electric vehicles by 2047. SIAM also aims for India to play a pivotal role in manufacturing and exporting fully electric vehicles to the world.

According to the SIAM’s president, Dr AbhayFirodia, “For the electric mobility to be a reality, the government, industry and all stakeholders need to invest and work together with full commitment to achieve their target. SIAM’s vision would help to create a good market for electric vehicles and the policy has to be followed in the long run without any sudden changes that might cause any unwanted outcomes that might affect the occupation of people working in automotive sector and other industries that support the automotive sector. This will also keep the market steady for the industry to grow and win the confidence of investors.
