Land Rover has finally launched the all new Range Rover Velar in the country. Sitting between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport, the luxury SUV is priced Rs 78.83 lakh onwards, going all the way to Rs 1.37 crore.
Based on JLR’s Lightweight Aluminium Architecture, the Velar can be looked up as a forerunner of what we can expect from the British marque in its future vehicles. The Velar comes with both, petrol as well as diesel powertrain options. The 2-litre petrol engine offered in two states of tune, making 246.7bhp and 296bhp, thanks to an uprated turbocharger on the latter, allowing for 26 per cent more air intake. The torque is rated at 365Nm and 400Nm, respectively. In terms of diesel, the range starts with a 2-litre, 4-cylinder unit making 177bhp and 430Nm while the top of the line 3-litre, V6 diesel makes 296bhp and 700Nm. All the variants come mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Velar is easier on the eye and its design elements contribute to a low drag coefficient of just 0.32, the lowest ever on a Land Rover. Contributing to it are flush deployable doors that are an integral part of the door assembly.
Being a Land Rover, off-road capabilities are unquestionable and the Velar features an all-wheel-drive system and air suspension all round. The ground clearance is massive at 251mm and water wading depth stands at a class leading 650mm. Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 and All Terrain Progress Control also make it to the package as standard. The Velar is high on safety features too and comes with six-airbags and a wide suite of driver assistance systems including Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist and an Adaptive Speed Limiter.
“The New Range Rover Velar is a symbol of sophisticated design, well-crafted interior, innovative features and technologies, backed by powerful and efficient powertrains. We are extremely delighted to bring the highly awaited and one of the most desirable SUVs with many of our customers are looking forward to own and drive” says RohitSuri, President & Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd. (JLRIL). The Range Rover Velar rivals against the likes of the BMW X5, Jaguar F-Pace, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and the Audi Q7.
