Mini has launched the new-generation Mini Cooper S convertible at Rs 34.9 lakh ex-showroom. It goes up against the Audi A3 cabriolet in India.
The new Mini is longer and wider than its predecessor, gets a larger cabin and 25 percent more boot space (210 litres with the roof on). It’s also got longer overhangs which means the Cooper S convertible isn’t as small any more. The roof in the convertible can part-open as a sun roof or tuck itself away completely in the boot in 18 seconds at speeds of up to 30kmph.
Powering the Cooper S is the inline-4 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that gives you 189bhp at 5,000rpm and 280Nm of torque is available at as low as 1250rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed auto ’box sending power to the front wheels. The Cooper S convertible can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 7.1 seconds and has a top speed of 229kmph. While all Minis are good handlers and nippy in this ‘S’ tune, the convertible isn’t about how fast it goes but the driving experience.
We will be driving it tomorrow in Goa so stay tuned for our drive report.
