Goodyear has today launched its latest tyre in the luxury SUV on-road segment, the EfficientGrip Performance SUV, in an event held in Buriram, Thailand. The EfficientGrip Performance SUV tyre promises a quieter driving experience with maximised comfort and exceptional wet braking performance.

The SUV segment is clearly a high growth market, with growth figures of close to 26% expected annually. Goodyear is looking to tap into this segment.

The EfficientGrip Performance SUV tyre is packed with advanced technology, including Goodyear’s proprietary QuietTred Technology that claims to reduce tyre noise, thereby improving the NVH characteristics of the SUV. SUVs have traditionally struggled in decreasing tire noises owing to their larger section tyres and higher weight. Goodyear expects the vibrations to be reduced as well, leading to more uniform wear patterns and subsequently a longer life span. The tyres are also equipped with what Goodyear calls FlexContact Technology, designed with a shock absorbing cushion layer compound that promises a more comfortable drive. These technologies are paired with a new innovative polymer tread compound for increased grip in wet road conditions, ensuring superior performance and better braking even in the wet.

“Goodyear is always at the forefront of innovation, dedicated to offering superior tyres developed with our consumers’ needs at the core. We understand that today’s urban luxury SUV drivers are looking for a comfortable, quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and the EfficientGrip Performance SUV is our answer to that. With the advanced QuietTred and FlexContact Technology, together with exceptional wet braking performance, we are confident that the EfficientGrip Performance SUV will provide consumers with an invigorating drive through every day’s journeys,” said Chris Delaney, President, Goodyear APAC.

Goodyear is one of the world’s largest tyre companies. It employs about 66,000 people and manufactures its products in 48 facilities in 21 countries around the world. Its commitment to the SUV segment speaks volumes about the importance of this segment for tyre manufacturers.

Goodyear’s presence in India is 95 years old, with two plants, one each in Ballabgarh and Aurangabad. In the passenger car segment, Goodyear India supplies tyres to many of the leading Original Equipment Manufacturers.

The Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tyres are available now, and will cost slightly more than the standard EfficientGrip tyres (which start at Rs 11,000).
