Frankfurt Motor Show: Toyota

Team Evo India

Toyota is on a roll at the IAA, headlined by its C-HR Hy-Power concept along with a new Land Cruiser, Yaris GRMN, 2017 Auris estate and Hilux Invincible 50 show car.

The C-HR Hy-Power Concept is a crossover designed by Toyota’s European design studio, named ED2.  The C-HR has been doing great in Europe, acquiring more than 75 per cent of total crossover market share, thanks to its hybrid options. Based on a diamond theme, the design follows the carbon theme all over. And there are no bolt-on elements and instead it receives a completely new design. The carbon theme continues over to the front diffuser, rear spoiler and wheel arch trims. There are 2-inch alloys to go with the styling.  The concept is expected to offer even more performance than the 120bhp engine, featured in the current car. More details will be revealed by early 2018.

Next in the list is the new Land Cruiser, having received subtle cosmetic changes both on the inside as well as outside. The capable SUV now gets a five slot grille with a slightly redesigned fascia. It is now longer by 60mm and the ground clearance is massive too, at 215mm. The approach angle is 31 degree, departure angle is 25 degree while the ramp breakover angle stands at 22 degree. On the inside, it gets a four-gauged instrument cluster and a 4.2 inch TFT information display that shows multimedia and vehicle information. The big SUV is sold with two petrol and one diesel powertrains in Europe.

Inspired by Yaris WRC, the GRMN variant comes with 17-inch BBS alloys, larger brakes, central oval tailpipe and a bespoke exterior finish that displays Toyota Gazoo Racing’s white, black and red competition colours. It gets a 1.8-litre engine that churns out 209bhp and 250Nm, thanks to a supercharger which none of the other cars in the segment can boast of. 0-100 can be achieved in just 6.3 seconds while the top speed is 230kmph.

The Hilux Invincible 50 SUV was displayed at the IAA with lots of decals, and livery indicating the pick-up’s dominance for over 50 years, since its inception. The Hilux is sold is more than 180 countries, having clocked over 18 crore units, globally. Externally, the vehicle features matt black high over and side bars, a black front under-run, and black wheel arch mouldings housing 18-inch matte black alloy wheels fitted with all terrain tyres from BF Goodrich -the company which supplies race tyres to Toyota Hilux and Land Cruiser Dakar vehicles.
