Brabham Automotive has revealed its new mid-engined track focused hypercar, the BT62 in London. With the unveiling of BT62, the company is back with manufacturing and also announced its intention to return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and restore glory once again to the Brabham brand name.
That is one figure to brag about. The hypercar sports sharp design and has a lot cuts and slashes that festoon its aerodynamic body. Carbonfibre is generously used to keep the weight of the car in check. The front bumper sports massive air intakes with a low slung front spoiler, made of carbonfibre. The air intakes are located on the flanks of the wheel arches too. Vents that are designed to look like shark fins adorn the sides of the bonnet above the wheel arches. There are two massive air intake vents on the front bonnet. Even the side mirror housings are made of carbon fibre. The rear has a centrally mounted huge spoiler and massive diffusers that are made of carbonfibre. The hypercar comes with LEDs for front headlamps and rear tail lights. Brakes on all four sides are carbon ceramic units operating with 6 piston calipers, to save weight.
The twin exhaust units are placed in the centre, surrounded by carbon fibre mesh grille. It also gets F1 style tail light below the exhaust unit. The car comes in green and gold colour, as a tribute to Jack Brabham’s BT19 and his victory at the 1966 French Formula 1 Grand Prix at Reims. It is also the same year that Jack Brabham made history as the only driver to win a World Championship in a car of his own construction. The hypercar boasts of an astonishing 1200kg of down force thanks to all its aerodynamic elements.
Propelling the hypercar is a mid-mounted naturally aspirated 5.4-litre V8 engine that cranks out 700bhp and 667Nm of peak twist. Power is sent to rear wheels. The hypercar boasts of a power to weight ratio of 720bhp/tonne and a dry weight of only 972kg. The car will have a limited production run of just 70 units and the first 35 cars will sport liveries to celebrate each of the 35 Grand Prix victories by Brabham in its 30 years in F1. Brabham says that customers who own the BT62 will be able to join a driver development program which aims to extract the potential of the driver and car to the fullest. Michelin is the technical partner and an official tyre supplier. The deliveries of the Brabham BT62 will commence later this year.
