e-Survivor
Another interesting car showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 is the fully electric concept e-Survivor that made its global debut in the Tokyo motor show last year. The e-Survivor concept is a uniquely styled, small electric off-roader which pays tribute to Suzuki’s 4WD heritage. The concept is based on a ladder-frame chassis and huge wheel arches, large knobby tyres add to the model’s off-road credentials. The concept is powered by four electric motors, one in each wheel, and comes with all-wheel-drive. The motors allow for complete wheel control which permit for on-the-spot turning. The cabin sports a spherical display that shows the car and its immediate environs. Sensors mounted around the SUV are meant to relay this information to the screen. This concept brings together many new technologies that depict the new and exciting F.A.C.E of Suzuki’s intent for Future Mobility. (Four-Wheel Drive, Autonomous, Connected and Electric).
Suzuki Hybrid system (HEV)
The company has showcased its next generation of Hybrid technology for electric vehicles. It is called the Suzuki Hybrid System (HEV) and currently powers the Swift cars in Japan. The technology delivers “high efficiency, lower emissions and capability of pure electric drive while offering superior driving performance” according to the company. Hybrid tech will accelerate the push towards EVs and further reduce dependency on fossil fuels.
The company claims that the system can substantially reduce emissions and fuel consumption for the large part of the automobile market not addressed by EVs. The Suzuki Hybrid System uses a combination of an internal combustion engine working in tandem with a Li-ion battery to power the wheels. The hybrid performs various regenerative and energy saving functions like idle stop, regenerative braking, and torque assist.
