The Audi TT sold in India is a lot of fun. 227bhp and 370Nm from the 2.0-litre TFSI motor is good for a 5.3sec 0-100kmph sprint and gets you to 250kmph on a long enough road. It gets Quattro all-wheel drive, the cool virtual cockpit instrument cluster and comfortable interiors. It’s somehow just right in the sportscar world. Well, that was till a day ago. There’s a hot new RS version for the Coupe and the TT Roadster and it will blow your socks off!
The TT RS uses the same 2.5-litre turbocharged five cylinder motor from the previous-gen TT but has been heavily reworked to make the engine lighter and more powerful. At 400 horsepower, the new TT makes 60bhp more than its predecessor, sends 480Nm of torque to all four wheels, and when you stomp on the gas, Audi claims that it goes to 100kmph in 3.7 seconds, faster than its elder RS siblings. The roadster does the same sprint in 3.9 seconds, the added weight to stiffen the structure slowing it down marginally. It gets a softtop that opens in just 10 seconds, which is quite quick too.
The TT RS gets a fixed and more purposeful rear wing, not the tiny deployable one in the regular coupe. There’s a more aggressive front bumper with larger air dams sucking air in, 19- or 20-inch wheels and sportier seats.
