2017 Audi Q5 teased ahead of its debut

Team Evo India

Audi has released a video teasing the 2017 Audi Q5 ahead of its debut in Paris Motor Show next week. In the video, the mid-size luxury SUV is seen showing off its dynamic turn indicators, advanced LED lighting technology, DRLs, tail lamps and also includes hints of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. This generation of the Q5 will ride on the VW’s new MLB platform, with front wheel drive for the first time, to help slice off more than 100kg over its predecessor, improving the car’s efficiency. The MLB platform is popularly in use in the A4, and the 2017 Q5 seems to pull a lot of inspiration from it.

For the engine line-up, a turbocharged 2-litre petrol engine making 187bhp will be offered in the SUV, and most likely an all-wheel drive 2-litre petrol engine producing 248bhp. The engine line-up will also include a 2-litre diesel engine. A V6 in both petrol and diesel are likely to be seen post launch. Rumour has it that a 500bhp twin-turbo petrol Q5 RS and more powerful six-cylinder diesel engines will also join the market, the latter being four-wheel drive with the Quattro system seen in the latest A4.

With Audi’s virtual cockpit, the SUV will also come with navigation that uses Google maps. On the outside, the Q5 will feature the prominent hexagonal front grille, slimmer headlamps and triple-slat air intakes. The Q5 has been caught testing in the country and under the camouflaged skin the Q5 seems longer, taller, wider and with bigger wheels.

The 2017 Audi Q5 will compete with the likes of BMW X3, the Mercedes-Benz GLC and soon to be launched, Jaguar F-Pace. Audi has been challenging Mercedes-Benz in India for quite a while and the mid-size SUV is where the four-ringed marque felt dated compared to the more modern Merc. With the Q5, Audi will have a brand-new and contemporary SUV that could pose as a major threat to the likes of the GLC.
