From Guwahati to Bhalukpong and now till Dirang, the trip is nearing its half life. And what a drive its been till now. Bhalukpong to Dirang is what we covered on day 2, and while the distance is a measly 139kms, the roads are so treacherous that it took us almost half a day to get to our hotel! After a hearty breakfast, we left from our hotel in Bhalukpong, which was on the same land as a petrol pump. So with all our tanks filled to the brim, we left Bhalukpong behind and got ready to enter into the state of Arunachal Pradesh. Excitement levels were sky high as almost none of the participants had been to this side of the country. On our way, we visited Tipi Orchid Garden. The garden is home to over 50,000 varieties of orchids!
Our time at the orchidarium was cut short by sudden heavy showers. After which, the serpentine roads proved to be a little challenging as the rains had turned the dust into muck. Add to that a thick blanket of fog, and that really toughened things up. But the participants proved to be tougher than the terrain and conquered the mountains with expertise.
The day ended with an intense offroading session with Sirish Chandran spearheading the drive. The members of SOUL thoroughly enjoyed the experience in their Tata SUVs, and with the added knowledge of the session, we’re ready to take on Sela pass and Tawang tomorrow.
