With Kibithu wrapped up, it’s time to head from India’s extreme hinterland to its heartland. The Renault Kwid has been driven for about 8000km from the start of the India Diamond Trail and so far, the going has been smooth even when situations were challenging.
We left Walong early day before yesterday and headed straight to Dibrugarh in Assam. Till Siliguri, we will be driving past the same highway (AH1), and Siliguri onwards we will drive through Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. After leaving Walong, the Kwid had to tackle some steep and muddy inclines, thanks to heavy rainfall the previous night. But keeping the throttle pinned on these stretches made the car get through many such challenges. The following morning, we grabbed some momos and chowmein for breakfast (you don’t get to choose much in this part of India) and headed straight to Guwahati. The journey was pretty much smooth sailing as we drove past Kaziranga National Park yet again, where the tarmac is just sublime. Cattle and heavy vehicle traffic however spoil the fun by a bit.

The Renault Kwid has now been given for servicing in Guwahati. Not that there’s any major issue but the car has taken a lot of beating on the horrible roads of Arunachal, so better get its health checked up before resuming the leg four of the India Diamond Trail. Also, crew gets to rest for a day after three weeks of daily driving.
