Day 16: Just ten states left in the Renault Kwid 29 States 29 Days Challenge

Jehan Adil Darukhanawala

Have you ever had one of those days where everything was going smooth and calm but you just hoped for a bit of drama? Well yesterday was one of those days. Despite making solid time through the day, besting Google’s ETA by nearly an hour, there was something quite boring about the day. Maybe I’m having mountainous-road withdrawal syndrome (Yup, I made that up and it’s real).

Getting out of Rourkela was swift

We were surprised when we turned out of the city and onto a spanking expressway. The Renault Kwids were allowed to stretch its legs as we were going full throttle until the town of Raigarh. Raigarh used to be one of the princely towns but the condition that it is in currently, makes you wonder how poorly we treat and respect our history. The Rajmahal there was one of the jewels of the city but in its current state is befitting a cheap Hindi horror movie set.

We had to travel on the old state highway to get to Bhubaneshwar

The single lane road to the state capital was again a surprise to us given its relatively fantastic condition. Again it was one of the places that would put most of the highly developed states to shame. But after a nice comfortable drive, Bhubaneshwar became the perfect destination to crash out.

I’m super excited for day 17. The drive to Vishakhapatnam isn’t that long and also will be my final day on the drive. With that I’ll have completed 20 states of the journey clocking over 7500km on board. Not bad for an adventure, right?
